ring-neck flagon . The vessel is somewhat distorted and has the appearance of being overfired so that the fabric appears light red internally and grey externally with a patchy cream slip externally. Mid 1st Century examples of the ring-neck flagon exhibit a very even set of rings (numerous examples at Usk), but our example has the more prominent uppermost ring which is a development perhaps of the later Flavian period cf. Llystyn, P1 (late 1st Century) and remained popular in the first half of the 2nd Century (cf. Gillam type 5 with a terminal date of c.A.D 150)
