Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Double cloth, handloom woven. Very large coverlet, woven in three pieces. The warp threads go across the coverlet. There are two 37" wide pieces, each with two depictions of Caernarfon Castle, entitled: CARNARVON CASTLE, flanked by wide border of overall naturalistic floral motifs. An extra piece of border 48 cm wide has been stitched onto one end of coverlet. The three sides with borders are edged with woven tape, and the other end has selvage. There is possibly a piece of border missing from foot end. Colours: Dull pink and natural white wool. Caernarvon castle, floral border; pink, natural. Two tape labels are stitched in one corner: stables and Penrhyn. Woven by John Roberts, Caernarfon; ?identical to one presented to Edward VII when Prince of Wales on occasion of his opening Caernarvon Water Works in 1876.
