Jug

Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)

Jug, earthenware, standing on a purple rounded foot-rim, oviform body tapering inwards at the neck before flaring out to the mouth, everted lobed lip-rim and wide spout, high loop straight-backed handle with raised thumb-spur and inner spur further down, vertical ribbed moulding to the handle with elaborate foliate moulding spreading on to the lip-rim and body from the upper and lower terminals; transfer-printed in purple-grey with the 'Googerat' pattern, large spreading sprays of flowers and foliage to the body and neck, smaller sprays of flowers and foliage to the interior neck, elaborate scrolling stylized foliage to the neck below the spout and handle, border to the interior and exterior lip-rim of scrolls on a purple-grey ground, purple-grey markings to the handle and foliate mouldings.
