Seal impression: Durham Episcopal Chancery-General
On an heraldic rose, a shield: dext. a cross flory between four lions rampant, SEE OF DURHAM: impaling sin. BARNES (as No.207). Above the shield two hands emerge from the clouds holding, dext. an open book inscribed : PATERNO, and a scroll inscribed: DOCTRINA: sin. a birch rod, and a scroll entitled: DISCIPLINA; between the hands, the date, 1577. In field to either side of the rose, the bishop's initials: R.B. In base upon a scroll the words : CRVX . VERITATI . COMES
