Collar

Film prop from 1977 film 'The Exorcist 2 The Heretic'. Collar was worn by Richard Burton, who was playing Father Phillip Lamont. At the start of the filming, Burton did not have a dog collar, therefore the Rev. John Morris of the British Embassy Church (Paris) lent him his. Burton returned the collar with the inscription: 'To the Rev John Morris with many thanks for this collar', and signed it.

Clerical collar made of white, finely textured plastic, 2.5cm high, to fit a neck circumference of 38.5cm. The upper edge of the collar is folded inwards (just 4mm short of being folded in half). At the inner centre front, the folded-over section of the collar has an oval hole for fastening onto the shirt/cassock. At centre back, the collar is open and both ends are rounded off and trimmed away and have been fitted with another oval hole for fastening. The hole at each end has been reinforced on the inside with an adhered oval patch of the same white plastic material, which strengthens the edge of each hole by a width of 6mm. The white plastic material appears to be a laminate which has an interior textile structure. The fine texture of the surface of the plastic material consists of an irregular pattern of horiztonal and vertical lines.
