Charred piece of pit prop from 1913 explosion at Universal Colliery, Senghenydd. "and all the timber, so far as I could see from there on was all ablaze.... ." Mr Shaw the colliery manager quoted in the Home Office Report. This piece of badly charred timber roof support was recovered after the disaster having been found near the body of Samuel Booth of Abertridwr. Apparently Samuel's father was also working down Senghenydd that day but survived.
