Starboard broadside view of the S.S. Aegeus c. 1936

S.S. AEGEUS. Laid down by Mcmillan & Sons Ltd., Dumbarton for the Shipping Controller as WAR STOCK but completed 1920 as S.S. DALWORTH for the Dalgliesh Steam Shipping Co (manages by Robert Stanley Shipping), Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Sold to Connell & Grace Ltd., Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1935 and renamed ss SIMONSIDE. Sold in 1937 to Pateras Brothers of Piraeus and renamed AEGEUS. On the 2nd November 1942 while on route from Montreal for Durban, Sydney and Trinidad with a cargo of 3,929 tons of government stores and 2,553 tons of commercial stores she was torpedoed by German submarine U-177 and sunk off the south west coast of South Africa with a loss of 29 lives.
