Mr Brett started his docks career as a crane driver at Barry Docks and served in the Auxillary Fire Service during the Second World War. He was appointed Chauffeur at Pierhead Building in 1945 to Sir Leslie Ford, the then C.D.M for South Wales. He subsequently served four other Chief Docks Managers/Port Directors, two of whom (T.S. Roberts and John Williams) are either side of him in this picture.
