Iron Age / Roman iron shaft hole axe
This item is of medium size and weight in comparison to others of the type. The upper side is straight, whilst the lower flares outwards near the blade end. The blade edge appears to taper at the very end to give a diagonal cutting profile, giving it the resemblance of a small pick. However, this probably reflects a break along the blade. The shaft has an irregular sub-angular oval shape, which is much obscured by corrosion products.
