BOUDIN, Louis Eugène (1824-1898)
Boudin's experience of painting harbours in his native Normandy is evident in this painting of the port of Bordeaux. His seemingly quick technique depicts in accurate detail their masts and rigging. The artist spent six weeks in Bordeaux and the surrounding area during the winter of 1874 and 1875. His delicately atmospheric portrayals of the port belie the disapproving views expressed in his letters.
