Teapot and cover

Baker, Bevans and Irwin, Glamorgan Pottery (1813-1839)

Teapot, earthenware, rounded oblong shape standing on a raised oblong slightly flaring foot-rim, the sides slightly concave, then flaring out to a shelving collar at the shoulder, a number of incised lines run down the collar, raised lip-rim with waved edge, plain curving spout, square shouldered loop handle with raised thumb-spur and a moulded band halfway down, domed oblong cover rising to a flower-head finial, moulded foliage radiates out from the base of the finial, four incised lines run from the top of the cover to the edges; transfer-printed in black with to one side of the body a scene showing a rustic landscape with two male figures fishing in a river in the foreground with a well to one side and a building and trees to the other, a windmill in the distance, to the other side of the body a scene showing another rustic landscape with three figures in a boat on a river in the foreground with a thatched building and bird-house to one side and further buildings, trees and a bridge in the distance, black bands to the shoulder, around the lip-rim, and outlining the spout and handle, painted black anthemions to the spout and handle, the cover transfer-printed in black with two scenes showing rustic landscapes with cottages, the flower head finial outlined in black.
