Jug

Jug, creamy grey salt-glaze stoneware, partly decorated in underglaze blue, rounded foot, short beaded stem, baluster body, the lower part carved with gadroons below an illegible inscription including '1641 PET REMI' and a freize reserved with nine oval medallions containing three quarter-length figures of the Seven Electors holding their coats of arms; 1. The Emperor Ferdinand III as King of Bohemia, 2. Louis Count Palatine. 3 Philip Christopher von Sötern, Archbishop of Trier, 4. Ferdinand of Bavaria, Archbishop of Cologne, 6. George Frederick von Greiffen-Klau, Archbishop of Mainz, 6. As 1., the Emperor as King of Bohemia, 7. As 2. the Count Palatine, 8. John George, Duke of Saxony, 9. George William, Margrave of Brandenburg, shoulders incised with foliate scrolls in heart-shaped reserves, between engine-turned diaper panels, neck moulded with masks amid strapwork, grooved strap handle with rolled terminal, stepped domed cover, hinged, with a baluster finial and bifurcated thumbpiece.
