Plate, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, the rim moulded with floral sprays and sprigs, small birds, star-shaped flower heads and foliate sprays, a lobed edge to the outer rim; transfer-printed in black with to the centre of the well a scene showing two monkeys riding pigs on a race course while another monkey blows a horn and spectators look on from a grandstand across which is printed "GIBERALTER TAVERN", below the scene is printed the inscription "Pig Race", the moulded floral sprays and sprigs and the small birds to the rim picked out in red, yellow, blue and green, and the star-shaped flower heads overpainted in pink lustre.
