Figure of William Shakespeare, white earthenware with a blue tinted finely crackled glaze, standing on a rectangular base with canted corners inscribed in gilt raised capitals on a raised plaque, base encircled by a band of ribbing. Largely white and gilt, in Elizabethan dress of black slippers with gilt ties white stockings, gilt striped doublet and hose, gilt striped cloak over shoulders, naturalistically coloured face, black whiskers, grey hair. Standing with legs crossed, resting head on right hand, the right elbow resting on a pile of rust coloured books placed on a waisted pillar moulded with ?trophies above cherubs heads and scrolls. Right arm bent across lower body holding a large scroll of paper.
