Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
This is the only suriviving Late Bronze Age Inhumation in the Five Mile Lane Cemetery.
The individual was a Middle Adult (25-39 years) and probably Female. They are in a moderate state of preservation, around 75% remains. Radiocarbon Dating on her left Femur gave a range of 1042-844 cal BC Late Bronze Age Pottery (2025.7H/1.176, sf 19-051) was found under her cranium.
The burial was cut into bedrock at the bottom of penanular ditch G6 [3299] on the east side of the main cemetery area. She was buried in a crouched position on her right side, with her right arm resting under her head.
Her teeth had Calculus and Caries. Her cranium had Porotic Lesion in the eye orbits (Cribia Orbitalia) and on the parietal (Porotic Hypertosis). She had Degenerative Joint Disease in the spine, left hip and both elbows. There was also evidence of healed soft tissue damage through a minor periosteal bone reaction on the right ulna.
