Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Rectangular piece of crazy patchwork. From Maentwrog, early 1900s. Constructed from silk fabrics: satin, velvet, brocade, ribbed silk, twill with floral print, plain twill, patterned weave with silk warps and cellulosic wefts, shot silk fabric of pale turquoise and dark copper. The seams are oversewn with feather stitch, buttonhole stitch, herringbone stitch, and french knots are stitched throughout. Lines of the above stitches also stitched decoratively across the piece. Ten different colours of silk embroidery threads have been used. The embroidery is stitched through the patchwork and a cotton backing. The backing is a cream tabby, printed with a delicate pattern of blue sprigs. The print is facing inwards.
