Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales

Ordered 1929 as KNIGHT BATCHELOR by Pardoe Thomas & Co., Newport, but construction halted. Completed 1936 as CAPE SABLE by Lithgows Ltd., Port Glasgow, with engine by D.Rowan & Co Ltd., for Lyle Shipping Co Ltd. 1939 – Converted to an anti-submarine Q-ship, and renamed CYPRUS (p/n X44). Recommissioned as an Armed Merchant Cruiser (p/n F122) in 1941. She went back to commercial use from May 1942, but remained under the MoWT umbrella. 1946 – Returned to Lyle Shipping Co Ltd., and reverted back to CAPE SABLE. She was converted from coal to oil-burning in 1950. 1958 – Sold to T.Y.Chao, Hong Kong, and renamed EASTERN VENTURER, managed by Wallem & Co., Hong Kong, and Pan Norse Steamship Co. SA, Panama. 1967 – Sold to P.T.Gesuri Lloyd, Djakarta, and renamed GEMA. She was broken up at Hirao in 1968.
