Seal impression: Royal

Reverse. The king seated on a horse walking to the sinister, in hauberk of chain-mail with surcoat, a closed helmet with transverse slit and hinged flap (the first appearance on a royal seal of a visored type of helm) is surmounted by an open crown of three points; the seal is also noteworthy for an early appearance of the rowel spur. In his right hand, the king holds a long broad sword with quillions and a wheel-shaped pommel, the sword inclined towards his head and penetrating the legend; in his left hand, attached by an embroidered strap, a concave shield charged with the arms of England; horse-trappings: headgear, breast-band, saddle and crossed girth.
