Brown woollen cap, about 1854. Finely knitted and close fitting with looped woollen curls hanging down from the nape of the neck. Referred to by the donor as a 'Welsh wig'.
According to the donor, this cap was knitted in the Bangor area and sent as a sample to a Mr Horsfall of Leeds. Two dozen were ordered and sent to soldiers fighting in the Crimea.
