Silk wedding dress made in the dressmaking workrooms of David Morgan department store in Cardiff. The dress was worn by Miss Jane Thomas of Llanedeyrn on her wedding at St Pancras Church, London, in 1901. Stores such as David Morgan could provide the whole wardrobe and trappings for a wedding, from the dress to the wedding favours. This period marks the beginning of the 'wedding package' as we know it today.
The bodice bodice and skirt are made from tlight-weight cream silk, trimmed with machine embroidered floral bands and lace insertions. The bodice has high neck and yoke of gathered chiffon, edged with a frill. Three small diamante buckles sewn on front of bodice which is seamed and stiffened. Three quarter sleeves with lace frill. The skirt has a flounce at hem.
