BRANGWYN, Frank William
Brangwyn was born in Bruges to an Anglo-Welsh father and Welsh mother from Brecon. The family moved back to Britain and by the age of fifteen Brangwyn was studying under designer and socialist William Morris. As he became successful as a painter, etcher and lithographer, Brangwyn began to travel widely across the world. He had an international reputation at the time of the First World War and was a member of the Senefelder Club, which promoted the medium of lithography.

<p>This work pays homage to a lost place. Edwards grew up on a council estate in Llanedeyrn, with this work inspired by the nearby Ebbw Vale steelworks where his father worked. The sculpture recalls the societal ruptures brought about by the deindustrialisation and displacement of communities. trailing past collages archival fragments upon its surface to explore family and cultural memories.</p> <p>Label written by Evie Banks of the Demystifying Acquisitions group, 2023.</p>
