Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Shawl; 1880-1900; made from plain black finely woven twill wool fabric (black singles yarns in 1 weave direction and brown singles yarns in the other). 3 narrow ribbons (w=c.0.7cm; black velvet with white selvages) stitched along all 4 sides; on reverse, the 3 ribbons are stitched to 2 sides so that the shawl could be worn with the points down the back when folded. (no fringe)
Often worn in periods of mourning.
