Late Bronze Age bronze sword

Probable upper sword blade fragment. Wider break has gently rounded middle section bordered by gently concave outer sections. Narrower break has a rounded cross-section. The marked assymetry of this fragment is problematic, one side with a steeper curve than the other. Sides of fragment taper in a concave manner: a feature more reminiscent of an upper blade fragment. If so a break width of 26.5mm is at narrowest part of the upper blade. In side view, the fragment is straight. Repeated linear impact marks in a 15.5mm strip below the lower break is evidence of deliberate breakage using a blade edged implement. On reverse surface are dents and scrape marks, suggesting impact with blade against a hard surface. Blade edges well preserved, striations along edge indicate sharpening. Notching apparent, indicative of use wear. Green patina with light green carbonate encrustation.
