Tureen with cover

Baker, Bevans and Irwin, Glamorgan Pottery (1813-1839)

Tureen, earthenware, round-ended oblong shape, standing on a spreading foot, the foot-rim lobed and moulded with several raised bands around it, bulbous sides and flaring rim with inner flange, the rim lobed and moulded with raised foliate scrolls, to either end of the body twin horizontal loop handles moulded in the form of foliate scrolls with further moulded foliage spreading across the body between the two terminals of each handle, domed cover in the form of a round-ended oblong, a lobed moulded band around the rim of the cover and a rounded indent to the rim at one end of the cover, to the top of the cover a vertical loop handle scrolled and foliate moulded, a moulded flower head to the top of the handle; transfer-printed in blue with to the exterior sides of the tureen and the top of the cover scattered sprays of flowers and foliage in varying sizes, small sprays of flowers and foliage around the interior lip-rim of the tureen, dentil borders to the foot-rim and shoulder of the tureen and the rim of the cover of small circles and diamond shapes issuing small flowers.
