Jug

Wedgwood, Ralph

Jug, pearlware, standing on a spreading foot, bulbous body shelving sharply inwards at the shoulder, cylindrical neck, beak spout with vertical foliate moulding and horizontal moulded bands, loop handle the upper portion of which is in the form of the torso and head of a human figure with spreading arms, the lower handle scrolled, moulded leaves to the foot and lower body of the jug, around the centre of the body four moulded masks of human faces issuing moulded leaves, to the neck moulded looping festoons of vine leaves and bunches of grapes; the moulded areas overpainted in brown, orange, green and blue apart from the moulded leaves to the lower body, brown bands to the foot, lower body, around the centre of the body, the exterior lip-rim and spout, brown markings to the handle with the top of the head of the human figure painted brown, a slightly greenish tinge to the glaze.
