Tanker built 1958 as SCOTTISH PTARMIGAN by John Brown & Co Ltd., Clydebank (with two Doxford 6-cylinder oil engines by John Brown), for Thompson Steamshipping Co. Ltd., Glasgow. Ownership transferred to Scottish Tanker Ltd., Glasgow, from 1961. 1968 – Sold to Cia de Nav. Alheli SA., Monrovia and renamed MARKAB 1970 – Sold to N.J. Vardinoyannis and renamed ELENI V. 1972 – Transferred to Gladioli Shipping Corp., SA Piraeus, retaining her name. She was en route on the 6th May 1978, from Europoort to Grangemouth with 16000 tons of fuel oil when she was cut in two after colliding with the French bulk carrier ROSELINE in heavy fog off the Norfolk coast.
