Jug

Dillwyn & Co., Cambrian Pottery (1811 - 1817 and 1824 - 1850)

Jug, earthenware, standing on a spreading rounded foot-rim, bulbous body sloping inwards at the shoulder, cylindrical neck flaring out to an everted lip-rim, three lobes to the lip-rim the central lobe forming a wide spout, high loop straight-backed handle with raised thumb-spur and inner spur further down, the upper and lower terminals split into two spreading foliate moulded prongs; transfer-printed in grey-brown with the 'Googerat' pattern, large spreading sprays of flowers and foliage to the body and neck, smaller sprays of flowers and foliage to the interior neck, elaborate scrolling stylized foliage to the neck below the spout and handle, border to the interior and exterior lip-rim and spout of scrolling foliage on a grey-brown ground, grey-brown markings and a grey-brown flower head to the handle.
