John Williams' wife Sarah Jane (born 1859), with seven of their ten children. John Williams (born 1854), was a poet, journalist, tinplate trade exporter and world-wide traveller.
The eldest girl in this photograph is Mary Ann (Annie). She was born in Gilwern, Brecon in 1882. The photograph may have been taken in Lydbrook, Gloucestershire not long before the family moved to Pontardawe. Annie's husband, William Jones, was a roller plate foreman at Gilbertsons in Pontardawe and died in the 1918 flu pandemic. Subsequently Annie, who was a seamstress, and helped support herself by sewing and mending for the Gilbertson family. She died in 1976.
