Cot quilt

Thomas, Amy (Amy Thomas (10 June 1877 - 28 July 1967), quilter and quilting class teacher. Born Amy Griffiths at Frondeg, Llanwinio, Pembrokesire. Married Lewis Thomas on 30 September 1902 at Carmarthen Registry Office. Moved to Aberdare for her husband to find work in the colliery. They had four children (Glyn, Lydia, Margaret and William). In 1928-9, she was appointed by the Rural Industries Bureau to teach a quilting class in Aberdare as part of a scheme to revive the art of quilting in the depressed south Wales valleys.)

Wholecloth cot quilt made by Amy Thomas of Aberdare.

One side is made of pink synthetic satin fabric, the other side of gold. Central motif of an eight petal flower set within a circle, hearts top and bottom, two small four petal flowers on either side of centre, and four leaves in the diagonals. Set against a diamond diaper pattern. All quilting done by hand using pink thread.
