Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Rag doll in full Welsh dress made in about 1960 by Mrs Middleton Jones, Merthyr Mawr W.I. The doll was displayed at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, as part of the Federation of Women's Institutes 'Country Year Exhibition of Handicrafts', 9-29 March 1960.
Body appears to be made of felt with embroidered face details. There is leather and felt eye detail and greying hair. A linen gauze kerchief is at the neck with the same fabric on the sleeves. At the end of the sleeves there is a lace trim. The doll has leather shoes with a silver buckle on the feet, cotton jersey stockings and cotton pantaloons. The betgwn, apron and petticoat are all wool, with the predominant colours being red, blue, black and white. The doll wears an antique-romanesque pendant at the collar. On her head she wears a black felt hat edged with net and a red two-strand cord detail.
