Early Medieval human remains
These are remains from the Inhumation Burial of a Young Adult (17-35 years) who was Male. They are moderately preserved.
SK352 is quite probably from the same individual as SK341. SK352 is an inhumation that was later intercut and its whole torso removed. SK341 are disarticulated remains torso, mixed into the fill of later burial SK340, which seem to be the missing parts of SK352. In particular, the skull is split between both sets of remains. SK341 includes the jaw while SK352 has the cranium.
Excavators only realised the connection between SK341 and SK352 after assigning them numbers. They were also recovered from different contexts. As such, this one man has two Object Numbers. All of his remains are kept in one box so he is as complete as can be.
Also note, foot bones were included with SK341, but there is a strong chance these were mislabelled and actually belong to SK340, as SK341 are disarticulated torso remains mixed over the lower legs of SK340. In the Burial Recording Sheets, neither SK341 or SK352 are listed with foot bones. Possibly any foot bones of SK341/352 were lost when the grave was intercut at the lower leg by SK351.
His orientation of South-North is highly unusual in the Five Mile Lane cemetery.
His feet are intercut with SK151, which is the burial of a juvenile.
The burial is from Phase G: 771-894 AD
His teeth showed evidence of Calculus, Caries and Dental Enamel Hypoplasia
