NMWPA 2007.147.34 (NGR SS 9735 7723) Found by Norman & Ann Oxley on 29th April 2007
Lead casting, probably of Medieval date, 14th to early 16th century The object is a solid lead piece, flat on one face and irregularly curved on the other, producing a D-shaped section (with a length of 29.0mm, a width of 33.2mm, a thickness of 12.2mm and a weight of 41.5g). The top surface appears to have been hit three-times with a circular punch (8mm diameter). The underside is irregular from casting. It is possible that the casting may be a sprue from the manufacture of ampullae or possibly a failed casting for the mouth of an ampulla.
