Teapot and cover

Teapot and cover, of pale-buff, tin-glazed earthenware, standing on a narrow tapered foot rim, squat, globular body, ending in everted lip rim, the rim heavily chipped; the cover, resting on a narrow flange within lip rim, rising very gently to a central disc-form knop, a small circle pierced to one side; roughly moulded loop handle; ogee spout; the buff earthenware body covered with a pale duck-egg blue tin-glaze, around the lower body, a yellow band with a running pattern of semi-circles and dashes in underglaze blue and iron red, this surmounted by four foliate motifs in pale green and underglaze blue issuing small iron-red flowers with yellow centres, the upper body with large underglaze blue acanthus-type leaves, interspersed with smaller foliate motifs in pale green and flowers in underglaze blue, red and yellow, joined together in places by red tendrils, all pendulate from the lip rim; the cover with a repeat of this arrangement, all on a smaller scale, the yellow banding around the central knop, the knop with a small green and blue foliate sprig; the handle with yellow floral motifs and iron-red scroll-work; the spout with yellow floral motifs with iron-red scroll-work, reminiscent of branches and twigs extending to the main body at the lower terminal; the whole loosely painted and reminiscent of Imari-style decoration.
