Wall plaque

Anodized wall plaque mounted on a plywood board. Made to commemorate the official opening of the Commission of the European Communities Office for Wales, 16 March 1976. The Office was located on Cathedral Road, Cardiff. Inscribed: COMMISSION OF THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES OFFICE FOR WALES / This Office was opened on / 16th March 1976 by / The Rt. Hon Geroge Thomson / Member of the European Commission.

Acquired from the European Commission Office in Wales following its closure in Feburary 2020. On 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom left the European Union. As a result, the European Commission Representation in the UK ceased all activities on 1 February 2020, meaning that its Office in Wales closed. The closure of the EC Office in Wales marked the end of a 44 year presence in Cardiff (1976-2020).
