The tradition of pleasure paddle steamers operating in the Bristol Channel is maintained today by the Waverley that visits the area each summer. Built in 1947 to operate on the River Clyde services, she was withdrawn in 1974; however, she was then sold for £1 to a company of volunteers, the Waverley Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., who still operate her today. Waverley now has the distinction of being the world's last sea-going paddle steamer.
The paddle steamer Waverley, built 1885, was renamed HMS Way during World War I.
