Black broad-brimmed beaver hat decorated with broad black satin ribbon, satin-covered rope stitched into the shape of a coil, and broad lace ribbon (width = 9cm). Ribbon consists of chenille and other threads embroidered onto a black net ground.
Inside, a circular section of black velvet (width = 6cm), reinforced with stiffened fabric, has been stitched to the interface between hat and brim. Black silk fabric has been stitched to the inside of the ring of velvet. It is gathered at the crown and can be adjusted with a drawstring of black silk tape.
