Pedigree of the Rice family of Newton and Dynevor; dates from 1600; made up of three vellum (calfskin) membranes of roughly equal dimensions and glued together probably wih parchment size. Membrane 3 at the foot of the chart, appears to have been trimmed, suggesting that the lower portion of the document has been lost. This is also suggested by the attachment of a label bearing the name of the Herald of Arms, Ralph Brooke of York, who composed the chart. This label is probably part of the now lost lower portion.
The family was descended from Gruffudd ap Nicolas (fl. 1425-56), and reached its highest point of power and influence at the time of Sir Rhys ap Thomas (1449-1525) who was chief supporter of Henry VII. In 1601 Walter Rice was MP for Carmarthenshire. The family estates were in Carmarthenshire and Glamorgan.
