Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Plate of creamy earthenware, standing on a slightly recessed base with prominent concentric rings and two incised bands; the sides cushion-moulded with a prominent stilt mark to the underside of the rim; the rim waved; painted in enamels in the centre with a shoulder-length portrait of Mari Jones, the portrait outlined in thick black lines, the face in semi-profile, the hair, short and wavy, surmounted by a traditional black Welsh hat with a white band above the brim, around the neck a black floppy bow, around the shoulders, a shawl, in-filled with a pale yellow wash and decorated with simple daisy-type flower heads in pale red; the portrait encircled on the inner rim with a thin reddish-pink band, another in black and a wider band in olive green, the outer waved edge of dark green with 'Mari Jones' inscribed by hand in black around the curve of the rim below the figure.
