Punch-bowl

Punch-bowl, buff-coloured earthenware, blued pearlware glaze, thinning towords the rim, and pooling on the underside,; wheel-thrown hemispherical shape, slightly warped, on a high footring; printed in a greenish underglaze black, the exterior with a pastoral scene repeated with slight variations three times, comprising a shepherd sitting on a bank with a crook in his hand, a dog at his feet, five sheep behind, set in a landscape of trees with a church in the distance, the interior with another pastoral scene reserved in a circular frame of laurels, comprising a man herding cattle and sheep at a stream, two houses and a hilly landscape beyond; the rim with the same border on both sides, a deep band of diamond diaper with festooned husks pendant from a line of square diaper and circles above with formal daisies in their centres and vertical bands of the same, lobed lower edge with pendant stylised flowers.
