Jug, earthenware, standing on a straight-sided foot-rim, pouch-shaped body, cylindrical neck flaring out to the mouth, raised beak spout with a moulded foliate motif to its base, high loop handle with a series of foliate moulded outer spurs to the upper section, the upper terminal moulded with a foliate motif; transfer-printed in black with to the front of body below the spout the inscription "Dan O Connell Esq're, / and / The very Revd Father Matthew, / The Two Great / Regenerators / of / Ireland", enclosed by a spray of feathery foliage to one side and a spray of shamrock leaves to the other, to either side of the body head and shoulders portraits of two different male figures, one of them holding a rolled-up scroll, a running border of shamrock leaves to the exterior lip-rim and spout, a black band to the interior lip-rim and spout, the moulded foliate motif beneath the spout outlined in black, the handle painted with anthemions in black, a long crack extends from one side of the spout down the body to the foot-rim.
