Early Medieval whetstone
A crude whetstone made from a long pebble of Old Red Sandstone. It is probable that the original pebble had a very irregular shape; but whether this was so or not, muchof the present irregularity is due to the very pronounced dishing of all four sides through use as a whetstone. The right side bears traces of a slight groove which may be artificial. The lower end has been lost.
