Medieval ceramic floor tile

Lewis Group 16, 105 B

Slip on impression. fragments. 105 A reversed. Two joining fragments (not adhering)

Shield of arms set diagonally: 3 clarions set 2 and 1 (Clare); formal and loral lea motifs springing from top and sides and four roundels. This version of their arms, once thought to be the arms of Granville, is derived from a badge of the Clares (Siddons, 1993).

There is a fault in the stamp on one of the fragments that is not noted in Lewis but the tile proile is identical and therefore must be the same fragment.
