dress of plain & damasked satin; Skirt made in 12 panels of damask satin with a floral motif, the front of the skirt has a plain balck satin panel with a ruffle of chiffon attched in a diagonal line; guipre corded lace sewn down both sides of front opening; the fastening is 2 hooks and eyesin the CB of the waistline. The bodice is made from black silk with off white lace inserts at the neckline and lower arms. The neckline has a high collar with 3 plastic strips on the inside to make it stand up. The front of the bodice forms a V-shape. There is a CF hook and eye fastening. The bodice is supported by 13 bones possibly made from plastic although it looks like whalebone. There is a makers stamp on the petersham at the waist which reads 'Thorpe & Co' Both parts are sewn by machine and finished by hand.
