Tamping rod
Brass stamping rod or tamper, used to stamp black powder or gelignite into holes in the rock face during quarrying. One end is flattened through being hammered; the rod is roughly square in section; its lower end is enlarged and grooved to take the fuse leading to the explosive charge.
