Cup and saucer

Gotha Porcelain Factory (Factory)

Cup, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a short cylindrical foot-rim, cylindrical sides curving inwards towards the base, plain loop handle; richly decorated in gilt with to the front of the exterior body the monogram 'R' enclosed by a plain oval border with the crest of an eagle in black monochrome to the top, the whole enclosed by a further gilt border with foliate sprays to the top and bottom, a border of a gilt oval pattern around the exterior upper body, gilt lines around the foot-rim and lip-rim, the handle picked out in gilt. Saucer, hard-paste porcelain, standing on a short cylindrical foot-rim, curving sides; finely painted in polychrome enamels with to the centre of the well a landscape with a seated female figure clad in flowing green draperies and holding an anchor, the landscape enclosed by a circular gilt border with gilt foliate sprays around it, around the upper sides of the saucer a border of gilt sprigs and a waving gilt line between two gilt bands, a gilt edge to the rim.
