Taff Vale Railway Company hand illuminated polychrome First World War roll of honour headed “For King and Country. Names of those connected with the company who have responded to the call of duty. 1914-19.” Ornate polychrome border with gold oak leaves and roses, thistles, shamrocks and leeks, and Royal badges. Top centre infantryman with Union flag, bottom centre goat and Welsh arms on a dragon, shields of the four home nations in corners, flags of Allies centre left (Belgium, France, Italy) and right (Russia, Russian naval ensign, Japan). Statement at end of list “Note men who have been killed in action denoted thus:- [gold roundel]. Men who have died from various causes denoted thus:- [silver roundel]”. List of names commences with 17 officers in order of rank; followed by 913 names in alphabetical groups but random with each group, listed by surnames and initials - total 930 names. For both officers and other ranks regiment/corps or states RN/RFC for each individual except for 17 other ranks for which this column is blank. 39 names have a gold roundel, 8 names have a silver roundel, total 47. Two annotated MC and two annotated MM. Signed bottom right “Ifor P.Davies. Invt. et. Del. 1918. Engineer’s Office, Taff Vale Railway. Cardiff.” Originally hung in T.V.R. offices at Queen Street Station. Framed and glazed.
