Dress made for a female psychiatric patient at Hensol or Bridgend Hospital, 1930s. Made from reconstituted rags – a material known as ‘shoddy’. Produced by County Textiles (Contracts) Ltd.
Navy broadcloth with white stripe (tabby weave). Upper part and long sleeves lined with cream cotton twill fabric with vertical broad black/ blue stripes (arranged in sets of three stripes). Wide round neck in self fabric. Drop waist (very wide). Centre back fastening, neck to hip, with five white rubber buttons. Hand and machine stitching.
