Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
The pilum was the traditional weapon of the legionaries - a javelin about 2m long with a pyramidal head on a long slender iron shank. The head was attached to the shaft by means of a socket or a broad flat tang and a pair of rivets. It was designed to bend on impact rendering it useless to the enemy.
