Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Obverse. Queen Victoria, crowned and seated upon a carved throne, wearing royal robes and the badge and chain of an Order. A sceptre is held by her right hand, an orb ensigned with a cross in her left hand. The folds of her cloak are draped upon the four steps of the throne, the lateral pillars of which bear two crowned figures, dext. a saint, sin. an archbishop. At the sides hang looped, tasselled curtains, beyond which are two seated figures facing towards the monarch, dext. Justice holding a sword and balance; sin. Religion holding a closed book and long cross. In exergue: a shield bearing the royal arms: quarterly, 1. and 4. ENGLAND, 2. SCOTLAND, 3. IRELAND; encircled by the Garter with its motto, ensigned with a crown, and enriched on either side by a branch of laurel. No legend, but in its place a wreath of roses in flower and leaf, oak leaves and acorns.
Reverse. Equestrian: the Queen in royal robes, crowned and wearing the badge and chain of an Order, seated on a horse riding to dexter; her left hand holding the reins, her right hand a sceptre. The horse has caparisons of network on its back, a feathered plume on its head, and is led by a page in short tunic, his feathered cap in his right hand. In exergue: a trident on two crossed branches of oak. Legend in ornamental modern capitals, commencing with a crown; a rose of five leaves amidst two sprigs of three rose-leaves between the words.
