Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
WOOLLEN CANVAS, embroidered with coloured silks in cross stitch. Divided horizontally into four compartments by wavy and zig-zag stems and bands of key-fret pattern. In the first compartment are letters of the alphabet and numerals to 4; the second contains the following verse: “VIRTUE / We see - and sinners oft confess / With their departing breath, / The paths of virtue lead to peace, / The ways of sin - to death." The third and fourth compartments contain tree, floral, bird, stag and dog designs, symmetrically arranged. At the bottom is the inscription: "Mary Sturges Her Work Aged 13 Years 1823”. There is a border of a wavy stem with strawberries. From the former Bluecoat School The Hayes, Cardiff.
